Homeless

Prompt:  You meet a homeless person on the street. Do you give them money? Why?

I cannot bring myself to give somewhat money straight out.  I do, however, help homeless people as often as I can.  Unfortunately I just don't trust that the money I give will help the homeless person directly.  Maybe I have just come to understand that some people just aren't honest.  Either way, if I do help the homeless it is either to buy them food directly or to take them something they need like a blanket or clothing.  I am generous, but my own financial situation being what it is, I just can't afford to give money.

It is hard to know what to do with giving money to a homeless person. I've learned to look at their eyes and if I see despair there, I give money. If I see defiance, I don't. People have approached us at times when we have been outside fast food restaurants if we will buy them a sandwich/whatnot. We have gone back and gotten something for them as we can. Monthly I make a small donation to a local rescue mission to help in their aid of the homeless and hungry. I think sometimes we just need to give the money if we feel led to do so and if they do something else with the money that is dishonorable, it is between them and God :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
