Summer Jobs

Good news for once!  I got two summer jobs.  Both were lined up on the same day.  This is REALLY going to help with our financial situation as well as give me something to focus on while I'm looking for a job.

The first call that came through was a tutoring position.  I will be working with a 15-year-old boy who needs help in reading and writing.  Works for me!  This company I'm working with is really interesting.  They provide tutors for boys and girls in the foster care system.  The state compensates the agency, but I don't have to deal with the state at all.  This young man has been approved for four hours of services per week for a total of 32 hours.  This won't be very long term, and it's not a whole lot of money, but it sure is better than nothing!

A second phone call came in around mid-day.  I still haven't been approved for the job where I told the principal I wasn't going to pass the professional social studies exam for middle grades, but he wants me to teach summer school.  Whoot!  I'll be teaching from 9-1 Monday-Friday, and I'll actually be making more money than I was in the regular school year.  I won't complain!  This job is only for four weeks, but that gives us another month of income we were planning on.  Assuming I get a job for next school year, I will actually only miss out on four weeks of pay for the summer.  We can handle that.

Oh, I asked the principal if he has made a choice about my employment and he said the district office now wants me to interview with the district language arts director.  That's scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.  I guess I should know something about that position soon.  I'm ready to start getting some answers from the schools.  Even if the news is negative and I have not been chosen I'd like to start crossing some options off my list.

How exciting! I wish you best luck on whichever job you are looking for. I want to teach too but still don't have a way to actually do it..maybe within the next few months :)

Thanks Rina. I am super excited about my summer jobs. I realized yesterday that there really is one job I want more than the other nine I interviewed for. We'll see what happens this week!

Thanks Susi. Somehow, in the end, things will fall into place. Thanks for the luck!

I love that tutoring program for the foster kids; I think it is a blessing for them to get the help they need to do the best they can in school! Great too for you teaching summer school; the hours sound great too! Don't have to get up too early to get there, have a good chunk of the afternoon to do what you want to do, etc! Sounds like very good positive news on both accounts!

Absolutely rapt for you Karen, this is great news and very welcome I'm sure.

Think positive my friend, everything happens for a reason - this may be the stepping stone you need to bigger and better

Thanks Fiona. There are definitely some opportunities in both of these positions, so we'll just have to wait to see what happens! Thanks again for your encouragement.

That is fabulous, Karen! You are putting good energy out there and it is coming back to you :-)

I work for the school district too and am off for the summer with no pay. Ugh. I will be teaching at my old preschool for about 6 weeks which will help.

I know, the schools are really slow about getting back to people about a job!!

MA, You are right. I sure am putting out a lot of energy, so hopefully it will all come back!

That is one thing I disliked about working for the schools before I was teaching. The summer, spring, fall, and winter breaks can really be disadvantages when you are living on that paycheck. I'm glad to hear you'll be working at the preschool to help with that!
