"Unsinkable" Book Giveaway

I'm hosting my first giveaway! Now, I have to be honest up front. I didn't care for this book. I am hoping the winner will like it better than I did, though. Maybe the reader will have a more positive view on the storyline and a different perspective on the wiseness of the trip detailed in this book. With that being said, please read my review of "Unsinkable" by Abby Sunderland and Lynn Vincent by clicking on the red link.

I will be sending this book to the winner via USPS Media Mail service. This was a review copy sent to me via BookSneeze.com in exchange for an honest book review. If you are a blogger and enjoy reading, you may want to check out their website.

You have a couple of chances to win, but one is mandatory before all the others. You MUST go to this page http://www.abbysunderland.com/, read the introduction, and watch the video. Leave me a comment letting me know if you think letting a 16-year-old sail around the world is courageous for both the child and parents. Why or why not? Be sure to include your email address so I can contact you if you win!

After you have completed the mandatory entry, you may get additional entries by doing any of the following. PLEASE let a separate comment for each entry! Don't forget to leave your email address in each entry so I can contact you if you win.

Bonus entry #1: Follow Karen's Healthy Lifestyle via Google Friends Connect
Bonus entry #2: "Like" Karen's Healthy Lifestyle on Facebook

Good Luck! I hope you enjoy my first giveaway!
Giveaway will end on Sunday, April 10th, 2011 at noon. Winner will be notified by email and will have 48 hours to respond. If there is no response, I will choose another winner.

Ooh that sounds really cool! I've heard about this girl but didn't realize she'd made a book/documentary about her experience. This definitely sounds like a good read.

I think throwing a "random" 16-yr-old out to sea would be irresponsible, but I don't believe this family was being irresponsible. Based on the video and on what her parents said on there, it sounds like they've raised her from early on to 1) be a very responsible person, 2) to understand the ocean and all that it's capable of, good and bad, and 3) how to handle a boat by herself with no outside help. I think because of these things, this was no different than a teenager going to the Olympics for their sport, or something similar. Sure it's not the norm, but when a person has been training for something for years, it's not a ridiculous notion to expect them to be able to handle it, even if they are younger than someone else who may attempt the same thing.

Anyway, that's my take on it, based solely on her site and her video. Hopefully I'll win the book and then I can read more about it!

Hey Karen, got the book in the mail! As soon as I finish the book or two that I'm reading now, I will start this one. I'll try to post a review on my blog about it also. It looks like it will be an interesting read!
